Five Sterling Tracksters Advance to State

Sterling’s girls and boys track team has one girl and four boys advancing to the 2024 Nebraska State Track Meet at Omaha Burke Stadium, in Omaha this Friday and Saturday, May 17-18. These qualifiers are Lauren Harms, Wyatt Rathe, Jesus Gonzalez-Castillo, Ridge Bredthauer, Collin Kinney. These Sterling state track qualifiers advanced with their performances at the Class D1 District Track Meet held at Pawnee City on Wednesday, May 8, Lauren Harms won first place in the shot and third place in the discus. Sterling boys 1600 Meter Relay Team consisting of Jesus Gonzalez-Castillo, Ridge Bredthauer, Collin Kinney and Wyatt Rathe placed second to advance to the state meet. Three of these relay runners also advanced to state for their individual performances. Jesus Gonzalez-Castillo won first place in the 800 Meter Run. Wyatt Rathe placed third in the 200 Meter Dash. He also placed third in the long jump. Ridge Bredthauer advanced with a third place finish in the triple jump.

JCC Girls Track Team Take Runner-Up at Thunderbird Invite

The Johnson County Central girls track squad scored 79 points to take home the runner-up plaque from their own Thunderbird Track Invitational on Thursday, May 2. The JCC boys finished in 12th place with nine points for the day. individual girls results: Pole Vault: Charly Bobadilla cleared the bar at 8’ 6” for third place.

JCC Boys Golf Team Sets New School Points Record

Although weather conditions were chilly and windy it was a great day for a golf meet at the Tecumseh Country Club on Thursday, May 2 as the Johnson County Central’s Boys Golf Team won their own Invitational with a score of 310. With this score, the JCC boys set a new school record for a low team score with 22 points over par. The previous record was 311 set in 2018.

Sterling Boys Take 3rd at Freeman Invite

The Sterling boys track team scored 65 points for a third place finish at the Freeman Invitational Track Meet on Tuesday, April 30. The Sterling girls finished in 13th place with eight points.

Pioneer Conference Track Meet Called Early Due to Weather

The Sterling girls and boys track teams competed in the Pioneer Conference Meet at Pawnee City on Saturday, April 27. No final scores were available due to the fact that the meet was called early due to inclement weather. Individual results were as follows:

JCC Girls Take Third at Tri County Invitational

Johnson County Central’s girls placed third at the Tri County Invitational on Wednesday, April 17. The JCC girls scored 74 points. Fairbury won the girls division with 110 points. Tri County took runner-up with 80 points. Other teams and scores were: Wilber-Clatonia, fourth, 74; Lincoln Lutheran, fifth, 61; Beatrice, 46; Fillmore Central, 42; Freeman, 34.

JCC Boys Golf Wins ECNC Conference Tournament

Johnson County Central’s boys golf team won the team championship of the East Central Nebraska Conference tournament on April 16 JCC’s Jack Waring was the tournament medalist scoring a 78. The tournament was delayed for 30 minutes due to lightning, but play resumed in rainy and windy conditions at Crooked Creek golf course east of Lincoln.
